Congratulations! You’re engaged!

Now what? You are now onto the fun months ahead of all of the wedding planning excitement! Here is a list of eight things to do first after you get the ring.

1.Call your relatives and friends.
Pick up the phone to share your exciting new with everyone. Save the Facebook and Twitter posts for later for the more extended family and friends so you don’t miss anyone.

2. Get your ring insured and sized.
You want your new sparkler to fit perfect while showing it off to everyone. Add your ring to your home owners or renters insurance policy just in case anything ever happens to it.

3. Set a date, even if it’s not the date.
Having an idea of when you want to tie the knot will help give you direction with the rest of your planning. How much time do you have to plan, is the venue site you want available, wedding colors, etc. Plus, everyone will be asking when the big day is.

4. Create a wedding planning binder and website.
Have a place to compile all of your ideas and take it with you when you meet with vendors. As you start finalizing all of those details you will have a place to keep everything together.

5. Set your budget and start a wedding savings account.
Come up with a reasonable budget for your wedding. Then break it down into all of the categories so you know what you have to work with as you start your planning and meeting with vendors. A new savings account set up to deposit into with each paycheck is an easy way to keep that money separate and accumulating for your big day if you are paying the expenses.

6.Compile a guest list.
Gather names of family and friends from the bridge and grooms side to get a preliminary guest count list on paper. You can edit it later and make adds or cuts based on venue seating, budget etc.

7.Find a wedding and reception site.
Think about what type of reception you are wanting. Start calling venues to gather information on how their receptions work, prices and what all is included. Ask to set up appointments at those that you are interested in. Your budget and guest list number will help you narrow down a site. If you fall in love with a venue, make sure you quickly reserve it for your date, they can book quickly!

8.Have Engagement Photos taken
This is a great way to start looking into wedding photographers and getting to know one another better before the big day. You can also use these photographs to personalize your save the date cards, engagement announcements and website.
